this could be part of the "share your tips for good health" thread - but i always like to have a collection of good exercises on one view.
would be nice to see everybodys favourites in: strenghtening, stretching, balancing, getting calm etc.
respect - c_mon

So i do the start:
doing kicks in a very slow motion not only improves your technique, it also strengthens the muscles around your foot-joint of the standing leg. (cuz you gotta balance with this leg)
balancing makes you strong (this was already said about the handstand which strengthens the muscles around your hand joints - and its also true for your feet)

2 good exercises for abdomen: 1) lie on your back. legs vertical. then grab your feet (outside edge) and "fall down" again. (if you can do it slowly you are good ) obvious variations: grab your left foot with your right hand and vice versa. 2) lie on your back. legs vertical. have a partner standing with his feet right and left from your head (so your shoulders nearly lie on his/her feet). hold your partners legs above the foot joint for more stability. now your partner throws your legs down (edit: pushes them to a side or just sraight ahead from him) and you bring em up again (edit: dont touch the ground with your feet and keep knees straight). and he throws em down again and so on. its fun cuz you dont know to which side your partner is gonna throw your legs.

I do deep squat jumps, I bend down and touch the floor with the palm of my hands (keeping my back level) then I jump up as high as I can and raise my legs to my chest. Go back down, touch the floor and repeat.
They absolutly kill but now I have huge muscles around my knee joint and inner thy. Now I can do huge jumps on level ground or land from a high up place and it wont bother me at all. Start at around 10 jumps, wait for 2 mins and go again, do that for 3 or 4 times, each week add 5 jumps and keep goin!

Hey ... i guess balance is a hard one to get.. in wushu we are supposed to develop balance through a number of techniques eg swallow balance (scale) and lion cloud balance... To scale you power your left leg into the air behind you and lean foward so your chest is horizontal to the floor with both arms out to the side... may sound easy but its not and it develops good strength in the ankle when you adjust balance in a similar way tht handstands affect your wrists..just slower as there is less weight ona single point here is a pic of someone doing...though could be a lot higher... img66.exs.cx/img66/2001/balance1pi.jpgalso for tht extra bit of lift calf raises off a step are good....and squat jumps are good too...but they buuuuurn....

Yeah Jingy, I do "a little" bit of things like that, I was taught by a pilates yoga teacher, from that stance on that pic, she can grab the high leg from behind and pull it to the back of her head, I was like.... wtf.
But yeah, its all good stuff, once you learn how to balance for more then 3 seconds like me, lol.

good link - lots of useful exercises (especially the squat hops appeal to me). rope jumping is a good exercise - choose a song of appropriate length and jump while listening to it (i press "play" on my cd, start after the intro and stop at the end) Music helps me cuz it keeps me going till exhaustion. I think its also a good exercise to gain sparring condition. But when i said that to my taekwondo master, he answered: no. rope jumping is just mental training. it is mental training cuz you have to remain concentrated even when tired, but for me its also physically very exhausting. the one foot calf raises on the Air Alert III site are very cool! for me they are also a balance exercise . and you can combine it with another cool exercise: stand straight on one leg, bend the other leg and push the heel backwards. now try to touch your ass with your heel (or just raise the heel). I like this exercise cuz it strengthens the backside of your leg by streching the front side.

awesome link mate, cant belive they dont have my deep squat jumps on there, they are one of the hardest workouts I've done but boy are they worth it. I do 30 deep jumps in sets of 5, it hurts soo much! I bet the people next door can hear me moaning in pain after every set, lol.

still got breath for moaning? not enough jumps! (i better shut up cuz i would be DEAD after 30 deep squad jumps)
my favourite exercise for wrists: one rep is to spread your fingers far and close them to a fist again. sounds easy. well, after one minute you know what i am talking about (do the reps quickly - about 2 per second), move the arms around your body while doing it (up - sides - back - front, rotate shoulders ...)

As long as Im still breathing, I can moan lol.
Hand flashes, how do they strengthen wrists ? (just wondering)
Another way to make them stronger is to hold the tip of a broom stick (with the brush at the bottom) Hold it in a fist and lift it up level with your hips, then slowly let it down and repeat.

so hand flashes is what you call em. (improving my english) They work out the whole arm below the elbow (at least it feels so) so i guess they strengthen the wrists (i admit not to be absolutely shure about that)
i dont get the exercise with the broom. (thinking...) i think i got it: maybe you mean: lift it with your wrists. sounds good. how about rotating slowly (so you train all directions - would be easier though cuz muscles get time to relax - maybe raise higher in that case). gotta be very slow when rotating - else you use zentrifugal-force and dont do any workout.
edit: my suggestion doesnt work cuz you cant lift high enough without standing in your way. (unless you got a seriously heavy broom lol) - though you can do semi-circles: left-front-right and back
Its also fun to train the wrists with those gyro balls - but i think training is cooler without using equipment

Air alert is a good exercise program. Did it a few months ago and found it useful. You should make sure your already pretty fit before starting out though. The intensity increases fastly from the initial program.
