I'm calling this standing jump cos i dont know what it's tech term is, you know the two footed jumping and landing.
Before the last Olympics BBC were showing a series of programs focusing on individual events in the games. I saw one on long jump. In ancient Greecian Olympics the long jump was a differant event, athletes would jump from a two footed standing start and land two footed. From pictographic evidence and burial remains that are suspected to be of champion jumpers. Reseachers came to the conclusion that jumpers used hand held weights to enhance distance using the weights as a swinging pendulen to increase forward momentum. Tests were made using modern atheletes to see if the theory was applicable. The atheletes with a little practice were jumping further using the wieghts.
Could this be a future development in Parkour or would the principle have a negative effect on the other aspects of Parkour. Suppose it would mean carrying some kind of wrist strapped wieghts.

I'll go with Adrenaline on this ... weights sort of sound like "gear" or "equipment" which is against the philosophy of the sport. That being said, when I was first starting to practice certain moves with rails, I wore shinpads to protect me and build confidence. But once I had done the moves a few times, the pads came off. I could see how you might use weights to practice long jumping, and the weights could help you learn exactly how to swing your arms to get the best jump. But then, once you'd practiced, when you actually went out to run, you'd want to leave them at home. Does this make sense?
My standing jump record is more like 2.5 or 3 meters ... didn't have a ruler at the time ...

Gonna get the measure out tomorrow to see how far i can jump. If you have some hand weights give it a try and see if it makes much differance.
