Four years ago, I tore a tendon that runs from behind my ear, down the side of my neck, under my collar bone, to my upper chest, back and the outside of my shoulder. This injury prevents me from doing most upper body exercises, like push-ups, dips and pull-ups.
I have been to the doctors, massage therapist and acupuncturist without success. According to the doctors I have seen, my injury is too minor to require surgery.
Can someone recommend a remedy for tendonitis?

Tendonitis doesnt have a quick fix remedy and as im trainig to be a doctor my advice will probably be the same as you have already heard, but ill give it a shot incase theres something that might help....
First things first, you say you have seen a massage therapist, have you been to see a physiotherapist, and been offered or given ultrasound?? this can help speed up healing of surrounding muscle tissue...
there are medicines available to treat tendonitis i think...- nonsteroidal anti infalamms... they would have to be prescribed by a GP, and then there are the option of steroidal medication too...however you can only have these four times in your life and both have side effects...
Recovery can be helped by stretching GENTLY the injured area as well as building up surrounding muscle...no over working though!
first line is always to stop doing heavy work, however you can keep up your fitness in the mean time by swimming as this takes the pressure off of your body...
four years ago is a very long time...have you made any improvement? have you sat out or tried to carry on?

hmm looking around and apparently there is a spray called Therapain Plus, it does have MSM and glucosamine in it but...hmm i dont know...you'd have to research it more, i would before i used it....maybe speak to your doctor about it... also it might not be right for you as you tore your tendon.. not inflamed it over a bursa....anyways heres the link so you can check it out for yourself www.reliefmart.com/Therapain_Plus_Glucosamine_and_MSM_for_Tendonitis.htm

After four years, most of which was spent trying not to aggravate my shoulder injury, the injury actually seems more debilitating.
Thank you for your sincere attempt to give me advice. You seem like a person who deserves to become a doctor. I have known many pre-meds, and most of them seem to want to become a doctor for the wrong reasons.
I have a proposal: Let's find the cure for my shoulder injury together. I believe we can do it. My injury is a common one, and a cure will help many people, not to mention a member of Team Evolution who sustains a similar injury in future (I advice you to be extra careful when doing hand-stands).
Let me tell you, I am no fool. I am 21 years old, I speak Japanese and Mandarin-Chinese, I am the second author of a research article published in Cell magazine, I was once majoring biomedical engineering at Duke University (before I made the decision to leave) and I have studied martial arts for ten years.
Over the last four years, I have turned to various therapies in order to heal my shoulder, including: qi gong, vegetarianism, inversion therapy, massage, acupuncture, fasting, affirmations, isometric exercises, continence, and more.
I believe I am on the edge of finding a viable solution to my shoulder injury that will allow me to rebuild an athletic physique. I feel as though I were on the last leg of a quest. I could benefit from the support of a sincere person; some one I can bounce ideas off, and some one with enough interest and experience to contribute meaningfully to my understanding of my injury and its solution.
What do you say?

Havent read the stuff, as i'm on a bit of a rush rite now, but my biology teacher who is ex-army had a tendon injury or something on his arm and leg. Well he sed it took him several months of repetative and slow trainin of some sort to build up the TENDONS and NOT the muscles...

About learning Mandarin, I have the following suggestion: get yourself into a situation in which you need to speak Mandarin in order to survive (ex. go to China and hang out at dangerous places late into the night).

I've slammed my shoulder into concrete so many times, that now when I do it, it hurts so bad. There have been days where I go to school and I can't even lift up my bookbag with that right arm because of my shoulder. I always wonder if I've ever done anything really bad to it, because I've never been to the doctor about it. That's one of the main reasons why I'm still attempting to perfect the PK roll, because from seeing these vids on the Evo site, you guys are constantly rolling on concrete and very solid ground. Most of the time when I do that...I get hurt . My shoulder has always bugged me -b

And stop rolling on concrete altogether for a while ... I don't mean to be harsh, Phoenix, but knowing you personally I'd say you might want to give it a rest and stick with the mats until you know for sure that you're doing it right. I bashed up my shoulder on a dive roll (came in too steep) about a year and a half ago, and it took a full six months for the moment-to-moment pain to go away, and it comes back when I run too hard or it gets hit. Pain is an indication that something is going wrong, so if it now hurts even when you think you're doing the roll correctly, quit rolling entirely for a while, until you at least can get through the week without feeling it. It's better to take the break - even if it's psychologically rough to just sit around - and heal than to continue reinjuring and reinjuring and live with the pain for the rest of your life. That being said, maybe I should stay off that left heel for a while ... (TK17 = hypocrite)

Ice pad for about 10 minutes, GENTLY stretch, Heat pad. If it hurts, dont do it again, could actually hurt repaired muscles.
